No marks for geography!

This somewhat geographically challenged restaurant was on the way to our chosen dining spot on purine night in this beautiful garden city.

The Bodhi Tree is Christchurch's only Burmese restaurant. It is also the only one in this predominantly oriental part of the town that is full within minutes of its 6 o'clock opening time. Some fellow trekkers at Waimungu gave us the recommendation and we were not disappointed. Formica tables, paper napkins and a slightly strange smell do not make the best first impression, but the food was delicious, definitely a good choice.

Breakfast the next morning was very early as we had to be out of the hotel in time for the 8:15 TransAlpine train, but once again we could have been in England. The Heritage's dining room is in the old part of the hotel, which was formerly the main Government building. We could have been in the small ballroom of an English Georgian country house. There was even a minstel's gallery.

We are now comfortably aboard our train for the four hour east to west crossing.
