The journey to Hawaii
Aloha Hawaii. This is going to turn into a little bit of an adventure. The check-in clerk at SFO asked us whether we were picking up a connecting flight in Honolulu. When we said yes, with Mokulele Airlines, she called her colleague over. Neither of them had heard of this airline. I am encouraged!
Perhaps we'll arrive in Honolulu to be greeted in the arrivals hall by Mr Mokulele himself.
I had planned to use much of our flying time to write material for this travel-blog. It looks as though our inter-island flight is going to be short and spent clutching whatever furniture there is and SCREAMING!!!!!!
One of us in the plane 'wid da man' and one of us strapped to the wing clutching the cases. We're going to die.......
It also turns out that the Island of Hilo (Big Island) has two airports - one on the east coast and one on the west. We are flying into the western one. So it's a bit of a shame that our B&B is on the eastern side. Minor organisational cock-up. At least the car hire was booked from the right airport. We wanted to explore this unique volcanic pacific island, but I hadn't intended to drive right across the interior within minutes of arrival.
I hope we're not about to encounter 90 miles of mountain passes. I've checked the terrain on the Google satellite. It looks OK. Well here we go!
Hopefully wifi has reached the outer limits of the USA. If it has I will be able to publish the next instalment in our saga - otherwise see you all in New Zealand.
