Flying has its moments

I may have mentioned it already, but we are flying business class on all the long haul flights.  This is not for any reason other than economics; this turned out to be the least expensive way of jetting round the world.  Our BA flight out from London to San Francisco was long, but we had large seats that converted into almost-flat beds, which made the flight almost bearable. All airlines are not born equal, however.  There Is no business class on American Airlines; there is steerage and there is First.  We flew First - the front of the plane - just 22 seats.  Anticipation grew as we boarded the aircraft; what luxuries awaited?  Of course there would be Champagne, Lobster nursed to perfection in warm Hawaiian waters and who knows what else......oh dear!!

The seats had obbiously been liberated from old Ford Granadas and provided not much more legroom.  If only they'd left the stuffing in, my bum wouldn't have taken the rest of the day to recover its circulation!

Why do they make the on-board toilets so cramped? I had to lean backwards to prevent my head bumping the ceiling.  Keeping your balance while leaning backwards in a plane during mild turbulence and keeping Percy pointing at the porcelain has got to be an Olympic event.  I just missed the bronze, although the incentive to remain upright and balanced is considerable as the toilet doors on AA open into the cabin, which means that the potential for mishap and embarassment is huge.  Happily my dignity remains intact.

At least this was the only AA flight. Hopefully Qantas do better.
